Tapout Fitness Kids Karate Program
For decades children’s martial arts have been highly popular in the United States and all over the world with Karate being one of the leading formats. Karate originated in Okinawa, an island in the Pacific Ocean (part of Japan). From a martial arts fighting perspective, Karate is one of the most effective in the world. Using a combination of kicks and punches, as well as defensive postures and movements, your child will not only learn the skills to defend themselves, but will also learn when it is appropriate to use those skills.
HOW OFTEN DOES TAPOUT FITNESS HAVE KIDS KARATE?
We currently offer kids karate in twice weekly 1 hour classes. We also have occasional Saturday testing classes for children that are being tested to see if they qualify to advance to the next belt level. As the program grows, we will be implementing a third 1 hour class likely to be held on Saturday.
WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN IN TAPOUT FITNESS KARATE CLASSES?
Your child will learn Ishinru karate from an 8th degree black belt. Forms, sparring, striking, defense, and board breaking are all examples of what we will teach your child.
HOW WILL MY CHILD ADVANCE IN THE PROGRAM?
You child will start coming to the classes in normal gym attire. After 4 to 8 weeks of consistent training, our instructor will inform us that your child is ready to take the white belt Gi test, which will be your child’s opportunity to earn the privilege of wearing the karate Gi and white belt. After earning the white belt, your child will have consistent opportunities to earn stripes (each belt up to black has 3 stripes). The stripe tests are less formal then the belt tests, and are solely at the discretion of the instructor. Frequently stripes at the lower belt levels are awarded to encourage development as a “good citizen”. Doing homework or chores, displaying polite behavior, etc. Belts are awarded based on your child being able to display proficiency in the required strikes, forms, or defensive postures required to hold the specific belt they are testing for. All testing is at the discretion of the instructor, but count on having your child test for a new belt every 6 to 12 months on average.
WILL MY CHILD FIGHT DURING THE TAPOUT KARATE CLASSES?
Your child will eventually have the opportunity to test for and earn the approved sparring gear that will enable them to get in our boxing ring and participate in sparring. The gear we require (including mouthpiece) is very safe and provides maximum protection. Your child will also have the opportunity to fight in tournaments, which are held periodically both inside and outside of Tapout Fitness Woodstock. If you do not want your child engaging in any contact sparring simply tell the instructor and we can have them focus on drilling and punching bag work instead, which will still provide great instruction and exercise.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING FOR KARATE?
Initially your child just needs to wear basic gym clothes. After they earn the Gi and white belt, they will need to wear those to all classes.
HOW MUCH DOES KARATE AT TAPOUT FITNESS COST?
Our karate program is very inexpensive compared to any other karate school in greater Atlanta. $49.99 per month is the rate, with additional one-time costs associated with belt tests.
WHAT MAKES THE TAPOUT KARATE PROGRAM SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER KARATE STUDIO IN THE AREA?
Several reasons stand out. First of all, we are half (or more) of the price of any of our local competitors, and we don’t sacrifice quality of instruction for price. Our instruction is as good as or better than any other facility in the greater Atlanta area. Secondly, we are not JUST a karate school. Karate is just a part of what we do (which is why we are able to charge such reasonable rates). We are a full service 24/7/365 fitness center, we are a BJJ facility, and we have a large adult boxing, kickboxing, MMA, boot camp, yoga, and dance fitness group exercise calendar. For example, we have a H.I.T. boot camp for karate parents that runs at the same time as the karate class, so parents can drop the kids in the group training room and come into the general fitness area to participate in the class. At Tapout Fitness, mom can drop off the kids at karate, take the boot camp then jump in the tanning bed, while dad lifts weights and the 17 year old sister gets on the Stairmaster. Where else can you do that?
